Pegasus Spiele releases app-supported family game Boss Fighters QR at SPIEL Essen
Friedberg, October 15, 2025: The cooperative family game Boss Fighters QR, developed by Game of the Year authors Lukas Zach and Michael Palm, will be released by Pegasus Spiele at this year’s SPIEL Essen in October. Boss Fighters QR is a hybrid boss battle game that recognizes the actions of the players via QR codes and lets the boss react accordingly. Players progress through a campaign to face ten challenging bosses with different tactics, strengths, and weaknesses.
In Boss Fighters QR, two to four players aged ten and up follow in the footsteps of brave heroes to face ten unique bosses together. They must coordinate and communicate with each other as they figure out each boss’s weakness. A single game lasts 40 to 60 minutes and begins with each player choosing a hero deck – jungle troll, hill halfling, copper dwarf, or wood elf – and combining it with one of the four class decks – warrior, mage, rogue, or druid. The scan-and-play technology built into the Boss Fighters QR app will recognize these physical cards via QR code as they are played, enabling seamless interaction between strategic deck building and exciting boss battles. The boss will react to player choices and respond to the actions of the group.
The app offers an introductory tutorial to immediately guide players through a basic learning scenario, then tracks the group’s progression through the game. The group can decide to face each boss at one of four difficulty levels. While the easiest level, Beginners, is intended for families and new players, the highest level, Insane, is challenging even for Boss Fighters QR experts and will provide an epic experience for even the most seasoned gamer. Depending on the selected level, bosses not only gain more health points and better armor, but also new tactics and abilities. Upon defeating a boss, players are rewarded with loot cards that can be used to upgrade their decks by unlocking new abilities and replacing old cards with more effective options. Loot cards are the primary method of customizing a deck in preparation for each battle, establishing a strategy by the cards chosen for a player’s deck.
With Boss Fighters QR, players immerse themselves in a fully cooperative game that combines the traditional elements of a card game with the technological benefits of a digital app for an exciting and unique gaming experience enhanced by animations and atmospheric sound effects. This enables players to concentrate fully on the game to enjoy its challenges without any tedious upkeep.
