Dorfromantik – Sakura published by Pegasus Spiele
Friedberg, December 3, 2024: New challenges, new setting, new Dorfromantik: In September, Pegasus Spiele released Dorfromantik – Sakura, a new stand-alone sequel to the Game of the Year 2023. After Dorfromantik – The Duel, it returns to its roots as a co-operative placement game with a new campaign and new game elements.
Everything looks familiar, yet also very different: no wheat fields, no railway tracks, no brick houses. Instead, in Dorfromantik – Sakura, players create a landscape of rice fields, roads, temples and cherry trees, because the stand-alone successor to the Spiel des Jahres (Game of the Year) 2023, Dorfromantik – The Board Game, by game designers Michael Palm and Lukas Zach, transports players to the idyllic landscapes of Japan.
The game principle is the same as in the successful predecessor: players work together to create a picturesque landscape out of hexagonal tiles, taking into account the wishes of the population, which they receive by revealing order tiles. By completing missions, building especially long roads and rivers, as well as by placing flags in restricted areas, players collect valuable points to unlock new achievements and thus new game material.
But Dorfromantik – Sakura is not simply Dorfromantik – The Board Game in a new guise. The co-operative placement game sports a total of six secret boxes and more than 40 unlockable achievements. These include, for example, the Wrap-around and Double Tasks already featured in Dorfromantik – The Duel, numerous new special tiles, as well as a completely new element: cherry blossoms. These award additional points but can also be used as currency to advance on the progress tree or to activate special tiles and success cards. Dorfromantik – Sakura therefore offers plenty of familiar fun and many new challenges alike for up to six budding landscape architects aged ten and over. Once again, a solo mode is included.
The world of Dorfromantik continues to grow. In addition to the first game in the series, Dorfromantik – The Board Game, which was awarded Game of the Year 2023, a stand-alone competitive version and two mini-expansions have already been released. An overview of all titles in the series can be found in the article Game Presentation – Welcome to the World of Dorfromantik on the Pegasus Spiele blog.
