In Rooms & Roomies, players set out to furnish their very own shared apartment. During the shopping phase, they choose furniture tiles at the store and carefully load them onto their own 3D cardboard moving truck. Making the most of the available space pays off: efficient packing allows players to upgrade their truck or enlarge its loading bed, giving them room for even more furniture on their next shopping trip. Meanwhile, potential roommates — known as Roomies — are waiting at the furniture store’s café, hoping to find a new place to call home. Each has their own preferences, however, so players will need to keep their future housemates’ wishes in mind to earn valuable bonus points.
Once the shopping is done, it’s time to move in! During the furnishing phase, players unload their furniture tiles and arrange them in their apartments. But interior design comes with a few rules: furniture tiles must match the flooring of their rooms, wall-mounted furniture needs to be placed against a wall, and blocking doorways is best avoided. A quick cleanup phase then gets everything ready for the next trip to the furniture store. After four rounds, it’s time to see whose apartment comes out on top. Players lose points if they’ve neglected basic necessities such as bathroom facilities or a place to cook — or blocked windows with tall furniture. The player with the highest score wins this cozy strategy game, which takes just under an hour to play.
Rooms & Roomies is the debut game from designer Juri Alexander, featuring illustrations by Annika Heller. Suitable for one to five players aged ten and up, it was launched at SPIEL Essen along with the Roomie Pack 1 mini-expansion featuring four new Roomie cards and matching tiles inspired by characters from other Deep Print Games titles.
